The Nobel Peace Prize of 2007 is shared by Al Gore and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change.
Prof. QIN Dahe, a CAS glaciologist and former head of China Meteorological Administration, was invited to be present at the awarding ceremony as a member of the 25-people IPCC delegation in Oslo on 10 December.
The Fourth Assessment Report of the IPCC has had a major impact in creating public awareness on various aspects of climate change, and the three Working Group reports as part of this assessment represent a major advance in scientific knowledge. Prof. Qin Dahe served as co-chair of the Working Group I and made outstanding contributions to the report.
